SOCIAL BLOXS enables visits without risk of infection
Worldwide, the novel corona virus is forcing people into social isolation. More than 800,000 people live in old people’s homes and nursing homes and are currently unable to receive any or only very limited visits.
SOCIAL BLOXS has developed a room concept that is designed to make encounters possible again – without endangering one’s own health or that of relatives. The company offers various rental and purchase options and begins first deliveries in May 2020.
The idea: the visit containers have a five square meter plexiglass panel in the middle, which can also be moved to the side if required. DECT radio telephones specially designed for senior citizens are used for voice transmission. A modern and bright design with plenty of daylight enables visits in a pleasant atmosphere. Extra-wide, 115cm high entrance doors on both sides allow easy entry into the container. Optional ramps can be ordered on request. The large windows on the long side offer a light-flooded view for both visitors and residents. In addition, one side window can be opened completely. In combination with the entrance doors, this allows for optimal cross-ventilation. Selected room materials, such as the wood-look floor or the concrete-look side wall, give the rooms a high-quality appearance. In addition to the separating panel, curtains and LED light spots create a homely feeling of space. On request, the company can also supply the visitor containers with indoor and outdoor video doorbells as well as WLAN and lighting control via app. Furniture in matching colours can also be rented on request. Solutions are also available for heating and air-conditioning. SOCIAL BLOXS has already filed a patent application for this room concept.
In order to relieve the nursing staff in the best possible way, appointments for visits can be booked directly by visitors via an online portal. Time-consuming calls to the nursing facility are thus largely unnecessary. Each care facility can individually define visit times and lengths as well as necessary cleaning and closing times. If required, the appointment slots can even be offered for a freely selectable fee, for example 5 EUR per appointment. These revenues are processed via SOCIAL BLOXS and, after deducting a small service fee, are offset against the rental costs in the following month. This makes SOCIAL BLOXS even more affordable for many facilities. Alternatively, an institution can also consider the assumption of rental costs by the nursing care insurance funds in accordance with Section 150 SGB XI.
The SOCIAL BLOXS team has been in turbo mode from the very first minute. The very first train of thought came to the three founders at the beginning of April. In the following days they started to develop the visit container, registered it for patenting, built up the visualizations and created the online presence. They also found a suitable investor from the health sector and a manufacturer for the containers. On April 29, 2020 the official foundation of the GmbH was finally decided by notary. The team behind SOCIAL BLOXS consists of three friends with a good mix of years of experience in marketing and digitalization, sales and product management and innovation management.
Thomas Schulz, one of the three founders, says about SOCIAL BLOXS: “For many old people and people in need of care, contact with family and friends is an important part of their social life. Many suffer more from isolation than from the actual crisis. Our visit containers can meet these needs. We are happy about a lot of positive feedback and it motivates us to make a contribution to the current situation”.
